Linda Edwards

Linda Edwards was born on a working farm in the middle of Kansas to a mother who was a near virtuostic pianist, and a father who had a rich baritone singing voice; thus it was destiny that Linda would also live a life making music.

She holds a BME in Music Education and  MFA in Conducting from Kansas University, and an MFA in Music History from California State.  Marriage brought her to Farmington where at first, she continued a career in live television broadcast which led to a chance meeting with the Dean of Education at San Juan College.  As a guest on her TV show, he mentioned that SJC wanted to start a music program and needed a person with a degree in music.  So, in 1978, Linda set out to develop a music curriculum at SJC.  By the mid '80's, she achieved that curriculum and a small auditioned group called "Company" decided to stay together and perform for area events every summer - a group which grew in popularity (and equipment) and continued performing each summer through 2018.

As the Henderson Fine Arts building had their Grand Opening celebration in the Fall of 1992 and Linda was asked to provide appropriate music.  She did so by inviting local music educators and other area adults to join her SJC Choir in presenting such a performance.  Subsequently, most of the adults wanted to continue to sing and the Masterworks series was born.  This is the format that the current community San Juan Chorale is patterned after - performing works of the historic and current Master composers.
